This is our Pre-Pride event, and folks who can’t make it out to join us at Trans March are invited to join us to get a head start on sending “Happy Trans March/Happy Pride” cards to 120+ of our Black & Pink incarcerated members locked in prisons across California who identify as Trans. As always, we will also be available to orient new penpals and we’ll have all the supplies and ways to get more involved in the movement to abolish prisons.
“Happy Pride” Cardwriting & Community Outreach
Friday, June 24 – 12-6ish
Trans March Resource Fair – Dolores Park, SF
We will have a booth and blanket area in Dolores Park where will be writing “happy pride” cards to our incarcerated trans* members across CA. Volunteers will be answering questions and keeping track of card-writing supplies. If you want to volunteer, reply to this email. Otherwise, just come and join us! We will also be fundraising for two of our incarcerated members!
Mule Creek State Prison Visit
Sunday, July 9
Likely leaving from West Oakland around 8am
We are continuing to visit some of our incarcerated members in Northern California prisons. If you have a penpal and are interested in visiting them, request that they send you a visitation form and then send it in. We can assist, if needed. We are doing ongoing visits to Mule Creek State Prison and San Quentin and plan on visiting California Medical Facility, CCWF, and CSP-Sac in the coming year.

Black and Pink National Gathering

August 4-6, 2017
Chicago, Illinois
This is a gathering for formerly incarcerated LGBTQ and/or HIV+ people from across the US. This gathering is for any volunteers and pen pals connected with Black and Pink. This gathering is for any people actively involved in the movement towards abolition with a focus on the needs of LGBTQ and/or HIV+ people. Black and Pink’s national office will cover all transportation costs for formerly incarcerated attendees. We will also find home-stays for people attending the gathering. Formerly incarcerated people will also receive a stipend of $100 for participating in the entire gathering.
